Stop Guessing When Coding MMR Titer Draw

Question: A patient needs proof that she was vaccinated against MMR, but she cannot find her vaccination records and her previous physician retired several years ago. We performed an MMR titer for the patient. Which CPT and ICD-9 codes should we report for the MMR titer blood draw?

Mississippi Subscriber
Answer: You should report 36415 (Collection of venous blood by venipuncture) as your CPT code for the blood draw.

For your diagnosis code, report V73.89 (Special screening examination for viral and chlamydial diseases; other specified viral diseases). Measles, mumps and rubella (which make up the -MMR- vaccination) are all viral diseases.
