Question: In an audit, I found out that my practice overpaid a patient. We mailed a refund but the check came back. Can we just keep the money and mark their balance as zero? Utah Subscriber Answer: Most states have guidance for such situations; such money would probably be considered “unclaimed funds” and can be returned to the state and distributed by the state’s entity for that purpose.
