Do Appeals Rules Cross State Lines?

Question: Hi, I live in a tristate area and many of our patients live in a different state than our office. Additionally, many of the payers we work with are across state lines too. If I am preparing an appeal, how do I know which state's regulations to follow? New Jersey Subscriber Answer: Things can get confusing quickly when you're dealing with multiple states' regulations, in addition to having to know your own state's rules as well as federal regulations. Luckily, there's a simple answer for figuring out what rules you need to abide by in the appeals process. Whichever state the care took place is the state whose regulations apply to your appeal, even if the payer is located elsewhere.
