Question: I work for a specialty practice, and our providers are hoping to boost their referrals from other clinicians. Is there anything I can do as a practice manager to help get more referrals coming in?

Answer: When you’re looking to boost referred patients, you can think outside of the box — and beyond just providers. Think about various community activities through which your practice can gain recognition: sponsoring a kids’ sports team, or even having one of your team members speak about your respective specialty at a Rotary event or at a regular meeting of a similar kind of organization (such groups are often looking for speakers).
Another thing to keep in mind is that you can network directly with other practices from whom you’re hoping to gain referrals. Calling another office and asking for a brief appointment to meet with their physicians can be a great opportunity to make an impression and get your practice’s name on their minds.
If your area has a high enough density of medical practices, you can schedule several of these meetings with different offices each week and really boost your practice’s visibility and name recognition with other providers.
