If you contract with Blue Cross Blue Shield in Minnesota incentive-based payment may be on your horizon. The payer is testing "shared incentive" payment agreements with four hospital/clinic systems in the state. The test program will provide financial incentives to hospitals and doctors who meet certain efficiency and quality measurements, according to Becker's Hospital Review. "This new model rewards health care providers when they deliver high quality care and innovations in care delivery," said Patrick Geraghty, BCBS' president and CEO, said in a press release. "Traditional payment models have fallen short of addressing cost increases and have only minimally addressed quality goals."
