Question: I am not sure whether to bill 97760 and 97762. Do you find that some payers will reimburse for the orthotic management and training or checkout codes?

Answer: Unfortunately, the short answer is probably not, at least not when reported on podiatry claims.

Codes 97760 (Orthotic[s] management and training [including assessment and fitting when not otherwise reported], upper extremity[s], lower extremity[s] and/or trunk, each 15 minutes) and 97762 (Checkout for orthotic/prosthetic use, established patient, each 15 minutes) more commonly refer to training and management of devices such as leg or arm braces.

Use caution with any orthotic code and query the payer if you have questions about the devices for which certain codes are payable.
