Unna Boot Code Includes Supplies

Question: My podiatrist applied an Unna boot to help treat the patient’s venous statis ulcers. Which CPT® code should I report for this procedure? My podiatrist applied the boot on the patient’s right leg.

Answer: An Unna boot is a type of spiral compression dressing made of cotton and zinc oxide paste or other emollients that keeps the skin moist and free of irritation while applying pressure to the leg. You should report code 29580 (Strapping; Unna boot) for this procedure. You should also append modifier RT (Right side) to show that this procedure occurred on the patient’s right side.

Don’t miss: Code 29580 includes the supplies associated with the Unna boot treatment, so you can’t report those separately.
