Reader Questions:
Include Q Modifiers as Needed
Published on Sun Aug 15, 2010
Question:
I'm reporting G0127 and CPT 11055 on the same claim. Should I use any modifiers?Virginia Subscriber
Answer:
You should in most cases when billing G0127 (
Trimming of dystrophic nails, any number) and 11055 (
Paring or cutting of benign hyperkeratotic lesion [e.g., corn or callus]; single lesion) for covered routine foot care. If the patient has a peripheral vascular, metabolic, or neurological disease, you would normally report these procedures and document the patient's class findings by appending modifiers Q7 (
One class A finding), Q8 (
Two class B findings) or Q9 (
One class B and two class C findings) to the CPT codes.
Tip:
Since not all Medicare carriers use the Q modifiers, you should first check with your local carrier's policy before billing them.
