Question: My podiatrist performed a fasciotomy of the patient’s foot and toe to relieve tension from plantar fasciitis. He cut the plantar tendon at the level of the plantar fascia at the proximal portion of the plantar fascia. Which code should I report for this procedure?

Answer: You should report 28008 (Fasciotomy, foot and/or toe). Code 28008 is most often done as a percutaneous procedure.

Plantar fasciitis defined: Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the thick band of fascia tissue across the bottom of the foot, causing a stabbing type foot pain.
