Always Report Add-On Code With Primary Code
Question: I recently got a +20933 denied for wrong place of service (POS). This was in an outpatient setting. Is +20933 inpatient only? California Subscriber Answer: Are you sure of the reason for denial? It doesn’t seem like the POS is the problem here. Since +20933 (Allograft, includes templating, cutting, placement and internal fixation, when performed; hemicortical intercalary, partial (ie, hemicylindrical) (List separately in addition to code for primary procedure)) is an add-on code, you must report it with a primary code. Code +20933 can be performed in an inpatient hospital setting (POS 21) or an outpatient hospital setting (POS 22). However, it cannot be performed as an outpatient procedure in the office (POS 11).
