Question: The podiatrist made an incision through the patient’s skin and fascia in his right foot to expose an area of infection. He then removed the infected tissue and drained the fluid. He also removed the bursal sac and debrided the tendon sheath. Which CPT® code should I report for this service? Ohio Subscriber Answer: For this service, you should report 28002 (Incision and drainage below fascia, with or without tendon sheath involvement, foot; single bursal space). Don’t miss: A bursa is a fluid-filled sac that prevents joints, muscles, and tendons from rubbing together.
