Answer: You should report the 95925-95927 series for short-latency somatosensory evoked potential studies (also known as SSEPs or SEPs), depending on the location of the study:

  • 95925 Short-latency somatosensory evoked potential study, stimulation of any/all peripheral nerves or skin sites, recording from the central nervous system; in upper limbs
  • 95926 ... in lower limbs
  • 95927 ... in the trunk or head.

According to the April 2002 CPT Assistant, "SEPs study codes are defined as bilateral studies. A unilateral study using codes 95925, 95926, or 95927 should be reported with modifier -52 (Reduced services) appended."
