Language that once restricted physical therapists from performing electrodiagnostic services has now changed. The American Medical Association's (AMA) Guide to Evaluation of Permanent Impairment -- Sixth Edition now recognizes PTs as providers of electrodiagnostic services that are within their scope of practice and field of expertise, reports the Aug. 15 edition of PT Bulletin Online, the American Physical Therapy Association's weekly newswire. AMA posted the electromyography (EMG) clarification to its guide in early August in response to comments from members of APTA and the American College of Electromyography. The old language limited the provision of electrodiagnostic services to physicians, the Bulletin reported.
