Keeping track of all pertinent medical supply and drug codes can prove time consuming. But two options exist. An electronic medical record will help you capture available supply codes. "The pediatrician puts in a few words, and the system pops up a list of possible items for her to select," says Paula Jacob, CPC, coding compliance manager at Medical Clinic of North Texas in Fort Worth.

Another option is to review appropriate related supply codes with office personnel. Have the billing/entry staff post the following partial chart to jog their memory. Make sure to bill the HCPCS Codes in addition to the associated CPT code.
