READER QUESTION:

Go Online for Current CLIA List

Question: How can I determine if a product is CLIA-waived?

Texas Subscriber

Answer: You can find a list of the current CLIA-waived tests at www.cms.hhs.gov/transmittals/downloads/R1115CP.pdf. The table showing "Tests Granted Waived Status Under CLIA," effective Jan. 1, 2007, matches a CPT code with a test name, manufacturer and use.

For instance, if you perform a marijuana drug screen on an adolescent, you can find the test name, such as ACD CLIA Waived Marijuana (THC) Test by Advantage Diagnostics Corporation (ADC), falls under 80101-QW (Drug screen, qualitative; single drug class method [e.g., immunoassay, enzyme assay], each drug class; CLIA- waived test).
