Reader Question:

Epinephrine Administration

Question: How should we code for giving an epinephrine shot after a bee sting?

Connecticut Subscriber
Answer: First, report the office visit (CPT 99201 -99215 , as appropriate) for the evaluation. Next, use the injection code (90782, therapeutic, prophylactic or diagnostic injection [specify material injected]; subcutaneous or intramuscular) for administering the epinephrine. For the drug itself, bill HCPCS code J0170.
