Question: The pathology report states a diagnosis of “malignant carcinoid tumor” for an ileum biopsy. Should we report that as C17.2? Nevada Subscriber Answer: No. Although “malignant carcinoid tumor” is a malignant neoplasm, the code you state C17.2 (Malignant neoplasm of ileum) contains a parent code Excludes 1 note for malignant carcinoid tumors of the small intestine and refers you to C7A.0. Instead, you should report the diagnosis as C7A.012 (Malignant carcinoid tumor of the ileum).
