Part B Insider (Multispecialty) Coding Alert

Physician Notes:

See Deadline Extension for MIPS 2020 Hardship Apps

If your Part B practice suffered some setbacks last year and you need to submit a Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) application for extreme and uncontrollable circumstances, you’ve got some extra time.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) extended the MIPS extreme and uncontrollable circumstances applications from Dec. 31, 2020 to Feb. 1, 2021.

“For the 2020 performance year, CMS will be using our extreme and uncontrollable circumstances policy to allow MIPS-eligible clinicians, groups, and virtual groups to submit an application requesting reweighting of one or more MIPS performance categories to 0 percent due to the current COVID-19 public health emergency,” noted the agency in an alert.
