New Codes Could Be Coming For Kyphoplasty, Image-Guided X-Ray KV

There will be over 750 coding changes in the CPT 2005 book, according to the American Medical Association. This is up from over 550 coding changes in CPT 2004.
Sources say the new codes are likely to include:
A specific code for kyphoplasty. Currently, carriers such as HGS Administrators are advising coders to use unlisted code 22899 along with a narrative description "kyphoplasty." The addition would be a huge help in ending coders' frustration with billing for this procedure. Some carriers have been demanding a copy of the operative report before they'll pay for the service (See PBI, Vol. 5, No. 8., p. 54.).
A new code for image-guided X-ray kilovoltage, which is an imaging system that uses a conventional X-ray tube mounted on a retractable arm to generate kilovoltage X-rays. This code can be used for radiography, fluoroscopy and cone-bean CT scans.
