Consultant Barbara Cobuzzi particularly recommends one electronic medical record provider called Meridian EMR <www.meridianemr.com>, which places a server in your office. The office-based server gives you the speed of an on-site server, but at the same time Meridian has a server in its central office. "They have your server constantly synchronizing with their server, so basically a duplicate of your server sits on their site," explains Cobuzzi.
From a security standpoint, this means you have an off-site backup of your database in another location. "You actuallly can pick up and continue operating your practice if something happens," Cobuzzi enthuses. Also, if you have multiple locations, you can access the record from anywhere. But the on-site server means "you don't have the deterioration of speed of a pure ASP model."
