Your podiatrist is absolutely within his rights to perform toenail trims--but he certainly can’t bill them to Medicare as nail surgeries. That’s the message from a recently-sentenced podiatrist who plead guilty to a $1.4 million Medicare scam and faces 55 months behind bars.
The Michigan-based doctor admitted he had charged over $1 million for toenail trims billed as nail avulsions. In addition, he reported procedures on dates of service when he wasn’t even in the country.
