Looking forward to the day when you can sign into PECOS on your physician's behalf using your own login information to update information? That day may be coming sooner than you think. The PECOS surrogate program is on the horizon, CMS reps confirmed last week. "We are actively working on it," said CMS's Zabeen Chong during CMS's March 6 open door forum. "Currently we have a tentative go-live date of May, so as we have more information we will be passing that along," she said. The specifics of the surrogate program are not yet confirmed, but keep an eye on the Insider for information as the projected May date nears. An extension to therapy cap exceptions until Dec. 31 is now law. Part of the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012 containing the so-called "doc fix" extended the therapy cap exceptions process. President Obama signed the legislation into law Feb. 22. Practitioners furnishing Part B outpatient therapy must "submit the KX modifier on their therapy claims, when an exception to the cap is requested for medically necessary services furnished through December 31, 2012," CMS reminds providers.
