Luckily, Medicare allows you to hold onto claims for a new physician and send them once the doctor has a billing number, notes Laura Talbert with Shore Billing & Management in Allen, MD. She recommends setting up a separate claims center for the new physician, so you can process the claims normally. You can call it Medicare 2, and claims that go into that center simply will go on hold instead of going to the carrier. Once the physician is credentialed, you simply hit send.
Think of those claims as money in the bank, because eventually you'll get paid for them, Talbert says.
