If you're sick of having to jump through hoops to access the National Correct Coding Initiative edits, there's some good news for you.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has posted the NCCI edits to its Web site, in spreadsheet form. These edits identify pairs of codes that carriers will flag as unallowable when billed together.
Since billing code pairs NCCI deems inappropriate can result in denied claims, and even federal investigation if the inappropriate billing continues, it's essential that physicians and other providers have easy access to the NCCI edits. But until now, the only way providers could get their hands on the edits was through a paid subscription.
The CCI edits now are posted at the CMS Web site http://cms.hhs.gov/physicians/cciedits/default.asp.
