Answer: Many facilities, when billing by time and materials for surgical services vs. a procedural rate based upon the HCPCS assigned, will assess a fee for the technical component of the general anesthesia service to encompass the gases, circuits, tubing and other supplies and equipment utilized. The anesthesiologist or CRNA would, of course, would still bill separately for the professional component of the service.
