Code Accordingly for Ear Wick Placements During Office Visits

Question: What’s the CPT® code I would report for an ear wick replacement and removal during an office visit?

State Subscriber

Answer: You will include the ear wick replacement and removal as a component of the evaluation and management (E/M) visit. However, if the provider uses a microscope, you may report 92504 (Binocular microscopy (separate diagnostic procedure)) in addition to the E/M service. Keep in mind that you do not need to append modifier 25 (Significant, separately identifiable evaluation and management service by the same physician or other qualified health care professional on the same day of the procedure or other service) to the E/M code when billing separately for a binocular microscopy.
