Keep These Coding Resources in Your Back Pocket

Answer: From a coding perspective, you should rely on numerous resources that offer guidance on coding otolaryngology claims, among many other specialties. However, one specialty-specific resource you should consider is the American Academy of Otolaryngology — Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS). The AAO-HNS (www.entnet.org) offers plenty of advice, guidelines, and coding recommendations that you may not be able to find elsewhere. Another helpful otolaryngology-specific resource is the Administrator Support Community for ENT (ASCENT) which can be accessed at https://www.askascent.org.

From a more general perspective, make sure you’re considering some of the following coding resources:

  • National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI, or CCI) Policy Manual,
  • Global Surgery Booklet,
  • American Hospital Association (AHA) HCPCS and ICD-10-CM Coding Clinics,
  • American Medical Association (AMA) CPT® Assistant,
  • Codify with AMA CPT® Assistant, Lay Terms and Clinical Responsibility for CPT®s, NCCI, LCD, CMS Fee Schedule, ICD-10 crosslink to CPT®,
  • and more
