Reader Question:

Don't Let Payer Allocate 90-Day Global to +61782

Question: I heard at a coding seminar that some insurance companies are applying a 90-day global period to +61782. Is this true?

Answer: If an insurer tries to apply a 90-day global period to +61782 (Stereotactic computer-assisted [navigational] procedure; cranial, extradural [List separately in addition to code for primary procedure]), they would be incorrect in doing so.

Explanation: You attach the global to the code that the add-on code is associated with. In this case, +61782 is being added to functional endoscopic sinus surgery. All of those procedure codes have zero global days, so the stereotactic CT guidance represented by +61782 also would have zero global days.
