Reader Questions:

Turn to Unlisted-Procedure Code for Core Decompression

Question: Does CPT include a code for core decompression of the right hip? I haven't been able to find an appropriate code.

Kentucky Subscriber Answer: CPT does not include a code for core decompression. According to the January 2002 CPT Assistant, you should report 27299 (Unlisted procedure, pelvis or hip joint) when the surgeon documents core decompression.

As with all unlisted-procedure code claims, you should submit a letter from the physician and a copy of your operative notes with the claim.
