Question Is it correct to code 28306-TA for left Foot first Metatarsal Mitchell Osteotomy and 28285-T1 and 28285 T2 for the 2nd & 3rd hammer toe-reconstruction?Florida SubscriberAnswer 28296-TA (Correction, hallux valgus (bunion), with or without sesamoidectomy; with metatarsal osteotomy (eg, Mitchell, Chevron, or concentric type procedures)) is appropriate for Mitchell osteotomy in the left first metatarsal. Code 28306 (Osteotomy, with or without lengthening, shortening or angular correction, metatarsal; first metatarsal) is reported for first metatarsal osteotomy performed for conditions other than halllux valgus or bunion. Code 28285 (Correction, hammertoe (eg, interphalangeal fusion, partial or total phalangectomy) is appropriate for hammer toe reconstruction of the second and third hammertoes. You should append modifiers --"T1 (Left foot, second digit) and --"T2 (Left foot, third digit).
