Reader Question:

Removal of Exostosis

Question: How do I code for removal of exostosis on the hip?

Utah Subscriber

Answer: Use the unlisted procedure code (27299). Include the operative report and a brief letter identifying which CPT code might be most similar to the procedure done, and compare and contrast the excision to that code, while still submitting 27299. For a sample letter, see Letter Helps SLAP Reimbursement on page 20.
