Reader Question:

Lumbar Epidural Steroid Injection

Question: What is the correct CPT code for administering a lumbar epidural steroid injection?

Florida Subscriber

Answer: The code you report depends on how the injection was delivered. Individual CPT codes exist for transforaminal and translaminar injections (64483 and 62311, respectively). If multiple levels are injected transforaminally, report 64484 for each additional level. You may also report the appropriate J codes for the steroid used.
