Reader Question:

Iliotibial Band Release

Question: Our orthopedist repaired an iliotibial band release for iliotibial friction syndrome. Is there a CPT code for this? Texas Subscriber Answer: This is the time of year when orthopedists are performing many of these repairs, since they are often caused by running and cycling injuries. This procedure should be coded with 27305 (Fasciotomy, iliotibial [tenotomy], open).
