Question: Our ophthalmologist took a patient into the OR for repair of lid laceration and cannulization and stent placement for repair of canalicular laceration. What are the proper CPT® codes?

Answer: Depending on the thickness of the repair, report 67930 (Suture of recent wound, eyelid, involving lid margin, tarsus, and/or palpebral conjunctiva direct closure; partial thickness) or 67935 (... full thickness) for the lid laceration repair.
 
For the cannulization and stent placement, report 68700 (Plastic repair of canaliculi) and 68815 (Probing of nasolacrimal duct, with or without irrigation; with insertion of tube or stent). These services are not bundled by the National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits and may be separately reported.
