The new set of diagnostic codes greatly expands on ICD-9’s “Other disorders of eyelid” category.
If you’ve been watching the development of the ICD-10 codes, you know that one of the goals of the new diagnostic code set, which becomes effective Oct. 1, 2015, is greater specificity. This goal is especially clear when it comes to disorders of the eyelid, where ICD-10 now allows you to specify which eyelid is affected by the condition. For example, the “Other disorders of eyelid” (374.8x) series of eight codes in ICD-9 crosswalks to more than 40 codes in ICD-10.
