Same-Day Billing for Port Flush?

Question: If a patient sees an oncologist who performs an established patient visit (99212-99215) and then orders a port flush, can I bill for both? The patient did not have an infusion. Illinois Subscriber Answer: Per CPT guidelines, you can't bill a port flush (96523, Irrigation of implanted venous access device for drug delivery systems) performed with any other services on the same day. Because the physician performed an established patient service, you won't report the port flush on the same service date.
