Differentiate Testicular and Scrotal Pain

Question: Our physician has documented pain in testicles and has not arrived at a definite diagnosis. Is there an ICD-10-CM code that we can use for pain in testicles?

Alaska Subscriber

Answer: You have a definite ICD-10-CM code for pain in testicles. Check the clinical note to confirm the laterality of the testicular pain. For pain in right testes, you submit code N50.811 (Right testicular pain) and for pain in left testes, you submit code N50.812 (Left testicular pain). If your physician has not specified the side for pain in testes, you submit code N50.819 (Testicular pain, unspecified).

Remember: Pain in testicles is not the same as pain in scrotum. ICD-10-CM also offers a different ICD-10-CM code for scrotal pain, N50.82 (Scrotal pain).
