Smoking Cessation Counseling:

Count on CWF for Beneficiary Coverage on April 1

Provider access will simplify dealing with frequency limitations

Beginning April 1, 2006, you-ll be able to use the common working file (CWF) to look up the number of smoking and tobacco-use cessation counseling sessions your Medicare patient has had.

Why this is important: Medicare has a frequency of service limitations edit on these counseling sessions for dates of service on or after Oct. 1, 2005. By looking up the number of sessions, you-ll be able to determine the beneficiary's available coverage for the service.
