Answer: Multiple non-chemotherapy substances infused at the same time through the same intravenous line are called a concurrent infusion, which you report with +90768 (Intravenous infusion, for therapy, prophylaxis, or diagnosis [specify substance or drug]; concurrent infusion [list separately in addition to code for primary procedure]).

Example: A patient receives two antibiotics simultaneously over the course of an hour. Each antibiotic is in a separate bag and is delivered through the same IV access.

What to do: Report 90765 (Intravenous infusion, for therapy, prophylaxis, or diagnosis [specify substance or drug]; initial, up to 1 hour) and 90768 for the concurrent infusion of antibiotics. You should also report the proper HCPCS code for the antibiotics administered.

You should only report one concurrent infusion code per day and only use the code to report non-chemotherapy therapeutic or diagnostic infusions.

CPT does not have a code for chemotherapy concurrent infusions, but the November 2005 CPT Assistant said to use 96549 (Unlisted chemotherapy procedure) for a concurrent chemotherapy infusion--two chemotherapy agents in separate bags, administered through the same IV line.
