Question: Our physician administered the following non-chemotherapy agents:

  • Toradol 14:40-15:10
  • Zofran 14:15-14:35
  • Benadryl 13:50-14:10.

All these drugs were given IV and Zofran and Benadryl were administered through intravenous pump.

How can we report for these drugs?

Answer: You would use 96365 (Intravenous infusion, for therapy, prophylaxis, or diagnosis [specify substance or drug]; initial, up to 1 hour) for the Benadryl infusion and code 96367 (Intravenous infusion, for therapy, prophylaxis, or diagnosis [specify substance or drug]; additional sequential infusion of a new drug/substance, up to 1 hour [List separately in addition to code for primary procedure]) x2 for the Toradol and Zofran infusion. You would use the following codes for the drugs in addition to the infusion codes:

  • Benadryl: J1200, Injection, diphenhydramine HCl, up to 50 mg
  • Zofran: J2405, Injection, ondansetron hydrochloride, per 1 mg
  • Toradol: J1885, Injection, ketorolac tromethamine, per 15 mg.
