NEWS YOU CAN USE ~ Nope -- That 26 Percent PET Pay Cut Is Not a Typo

HOPPS rates deal a blow to oncology PET studies The final Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (HOPPS) rule slashes PET tumor imaging reimbursement by one-fourth this year.

What to expect: The reimbursement level for 78812 (Tumor imaging, positron emission tomography [PET]; skull base to mid-thigh) falls 26 percent in 2007 to $855.43, down from $1,150 under HOPPS 2006.

You-ll see a 24 percent decrease in reimbursement for 78815 (Tumor imaging, positron emission tomography [PET] with concurrently acquired computed tomography [CT] for attenuation correction and anatomical localization; skull base to mid-thigh). You-ll receive $950 in 2007 instead of the $1,250 2006 rate.
