News Brief:

No New G Code for Bone Marrow

In the 2003 Physician Fee Schedule, Medicare has axed a proposed G code (GXXXX) that would reflect a bone marrow biopsy and aspiration procedure that is performed on the same date, at the same encounter, through the same incision. Coders should still use the current biopsy codes with care so that future codes will accurately reflect (and pay for!) physician work.
