Chuck Your Old Prescription Antiemetic Codes

2006 HCPCS update includes new NOS codes

Avoid slipping up on your antiemetic coding by sorting through these changes to the HCPCS codes,  effective Jan. 1, 2006.

Add These NOS Coding Options

HCPCS 2006 adds two -not otherwise specified- (NOS) codes:

- J8498--Antiemetic drug, rectal/suppository, not otherwise specified

- J8597--Antiemetic drug, oral, not otherwise specified.

Terminated: Due to these new codes, HCPCS codes K0415 (Prescription antiemetic drug, oral, per 1 mg, for use in conjunction with oral anti-cancer drug, not otherwise specified) and K0416 (Prescription antiemetic drug, rectal, per 1 mg, for use in conjunction with oral anti-cancer drug, not otherwise specified) are no longer effective in 2006.

Figure in New Pharmacy and Prescription Codes

If you supply your patients with prescription antiemetics, don't miss these coding changes.

HCPCS 2006 adds the following codes:

- Q0511--Pharmacy supply fee for oral anti-cancer, oral anti-emetic or immunosuppressive drug(s); for the first prescription in a 30-day  period

- Q0512--Pharmacy supply fee for oral anti-cancer, oral antiemetic or immunosuppressive drug(s); for a subsequent prescription in a 30-day period.

Terminated: These new codes led to the elimination of code G0370 (Pharmacy supply fee for oral anti-cancer, oral antiemetic or immunosuppressive drug[s]).
