Report FBR by How Ob-Gyn Got It Out

Question: My physician removed a foreign body from the vagina of a 4-year-old using a pediatric cystoscope and small laparoscopic graspers under anesthesia. Does 57415 still apply, or would this be an unlisted code because of how the ob-gyn removed the foreign body?

Answer: You should use 57415 (Removal of impacted vaginal foreign body (separate procedure) under anesthesia (other than local)) for the foreign body removal (FBR). He is not really doing a diagnostic colposcopy of the vagina (but rather using a small cystoscope for viewing the area), and most of the codes for removal apply to any technique. Plus, this is how the ob-gyn got it out.
