Report 58555, 49329 For IUD Outside Uterus

Question: My provider did a diagnostic hysteroscopy, laparoscopic resection of intraabdominal intrauterine device (IUD), and lysis of adhesions for an IUD outside of uterus. What CPT codes should I report?New York SubscriberAnswer: You should report 58555 (Hysteroscopy, diagnostic [separate procedure]) for the diagnostic hysteroscopy and 49329 (Unlisted laparoscopy procedure, abdomen, peritoneum and omentum) for the other portion of this procedure. You generally won't report lysis of adhesions separately -- especially when the physician does lysis to access the surgical site or the work involved is not significant. You should normally bundle lysis of adhesions into all laparoscopic procedures.
