Question Bleeding for the Correct ICD-9 Code

Question: What would the CPT procedure and ICD-9 diagnosis codes be for vaginal cuff due to post-op hemorrhage?

Kansas Subscriber
Answer: For the CPT code, you should use 58999 (Unlisted procedure, female genital system [non-obstetrical]).

For the ICD-9 code, you have two options. If this is straight bleeding, you should use 998.11 (Hemorrhage complicating a procedure).

If the sutures burst and this is the cause of the bleeding, you should use 998.31 (Disruption of internal operation wound) instead.
