Reader Questions:

Look at Unlisted Laparoscopy Code for LUNA

Question: I'm looking for a CPT code for LUNA (laparoscopic uterosacral nerve ablation). Can I use 58578?

South Carolina Subscriber
Answer: No, you shouldn't use 58578 (Unlisted laparoscopy procedure, uterus). The LUNA is not surgery on the uterus but on the uterosacral nerves. Therefore, you should go with 49329 (Unlisted laparoscopy procedure, abdomen, peritoneum and omentum).

If the ob-gyn performed this procedure along with other procedures that have CPT codes, you might consider adding modifier 22 (Unusual procedural services) to the primary procedure code.
