READER QUESTIONS:

How to Report Induction With Cervidil

Question: One doctor performed the delivery, and another doctor gave me a slip for decreased fetal movement and induction with cervidil. How should I code this?

Answer: Induction is part of the labor management and delivery. If the ob-gyn places the cervidil the day before delivery due to the decreased fetal movement, the payer may reimburse separately for it using 59200 (Insertion of cervical dilator [e.g., laminaria, prostaglandin] [separate procedure]).

If both physicians are in your practice and the ob-gyn did not place the cervidil the day before, you should simply code for the delivery (or global code). Then just internally allocate the work done by each.
