Reader Questions:

Bilateral Uterine Artery Ligation

Question: Would you code separately for a bilateral uterine artery ligation with z-stich placement done during a c-section? The patient hemorrhaged and it was repaired. If so, what code would you use?

Anonymous IL Subscriber

Answer: No, you cannot code separately for a bilateral uterine artery ligation with z-stich done during a c-section because hemostatsis is part of any surgical procedure. However, if there was any postop intensive care, extra hospital days, etc., involved due to complications, it would be appropriate to code for those outside of the global obstetric package.
