Reader Question:

Vaginal Hysterectomy

Question: What is the proper coding for a vaginal hysterectomy with anterior repair and rectocele repair?
Texas Subscriber
Answer: This is the same procedure as a vaginal hysterectomy with anterior and posterior (A&P) (rectocele) repair. The code is 57260 (combined anteroposterior colporrhaphy) for the A&P repair and either 58260 (vaginal hysterectomy) or 58262 (... with removal of tube[s]) for the vaginal hysterectomy. Keep in mind that some payers will try to deny the A&P repair, so make sure you have supporting diagnoses for this procedure.
